Become More Productive When Buying Domains!
Thanks for visiting my website about Low Cost Business Opportunities and “Starting a Home Based Business”. This is the second post of many more to come, it’s about “How To Buy a Domain Name” and how to save money when buying and renewing a domain.
I hope you find some of the information useful. Please read my first post about starting a home based business. I still remember my first domains, they were laughable. After reading this, hopefully your domains and usernames are going to be streamlined and picked properly.
My name is George Dirlam and it’s Saturday 5:22 pm on the west coast. I hope all is well with you and I look forward to a future chat on Skype, Facebook or by phone.
If you are starting a business or home based business, one of the first purchases you may want to make is – buying a domain. Even if you don’t have a business, you should at least buy “yourname”.com or .net
Your name is very important to you and many other people!
Buying a domain is very simple.
Once you do something for the first time it seems difficult. Even doing something which seems very easy to you later, may be difficult the first couple of times or even longer.
This is how we learn and get better at anything: Learning + Activity + Learn + Activity + Learning + Activity = Success!
After purchasing a couple of domains you will be a real pro and be able to help people and also reps in your downline. It’s also an easy to build rapport with other home business entrepreneurs.
I am not an affiliate with GoDaddy, but I am sure I could make money with their affiliate program. I have showed many people how to buy a domain. Just today, a gentleman I was talking with on Skype, told me he didn’t like Godaddy. No problem, I asked him if he had a domain with his name.
He said no, I said why not, and he said he could not get it, He did Google searches before and he has a name which many people have . It’s too difficult to get his name .com, he said.
Ok let me try, I will find your name .com or .net ( I own my lastname.net ), .net works well on the search engines, so don’t discount .net. If pizza.net was available, I would buy it.
I went to Godaddy while we were still talking on Skype and located the search box on their home page. Here is the search box on their home page.
Remember, Godaddy is not the only place to buy a domain, but like the gentleman who I am using as an example told me He didn’t like Godaddy, After 15 minutes of showing him some pretty basic stuff, he now likes it very much. He also saved money and has his name .com to boot. Each domain also comes with a free email, he liked that very much also.
Ok , this WordPress post it now at at least 407 words and counting, so let’s try to wrap up quickly.
Type your name into the search box, see if its available. Gaps are ok, I sometimes do it with other domains to make sure I don’t make a typo. I have no typing skills! Check your spelling before buying your domain. Everyone makes typos.
If your name is available in .com, buy it. Use a coupon code, here is a Godaddy coupon code I found on Google that worked today for buying a new domain. – sigler295
UPDATE: Todays is 2-15-14 and I just helped someone buy a new domain, the code sigler295 did not work so we had to find a new coupon code. We went to the google search box and entered the words – GoDaddy coupon codes and at the top of the page was a coupon code for 1 Dollar which worked just fine. This person then decided to buy the domain for 2 years instead of 1 year and got the domain for 2 years at a cost of $11.34.
To find coupon codes that give you a discount, just do a Google search and you will find many coupons. Keep entering a coupon code until the price comes down. I have seen new domain coupons for 1 cent. You will see a small line that says -“promo code” in the shopping cart page, this is where you put the coupon code.
The coupon code goes in the shopping cart page, just before making your purchase. Notice the price of a domain before a promo code is entered.
Now here is the price with a working promo code. This is a promo code I found today, it may not work later and you may also find a promo code with a better price. I like this price on a new domain and would use it.
If your name in .com is not available, try .net. If it’s available – buy it. If your last name is available in .com definetely buy it. Last name .net – a winner in my opinion.
Ok, if you are still having trouble getting your name in a domain name, add a middle initial. Still having problems, try middle name. Keep on keeping on, you will get your name in a domain name.
I wanted a new domain – online classes. I knew online classes.com would be taken. I already own www.theonlineclasses.com and www.free-onlineclasses.com and maybe even another one, can’t remember right now. Maybe i should take a B-12 vitamin..lol.
What did I do? I added a stop word to my domain and bingo! I got www.onlineclassesplus.com I then forwarded the domain to where it goes now.
Forwarding and masking domains are also very easy. The first time I was trying to figure it out seemed very difficult. Now it is so easy and will be for you too.
I always try to put the stop word at the end of the domain, when buying a domain or picking a username. You will also get much better at usernames when learning how to combine stop words with domain names.
I hope this post “How to buy a domain name” will help you. If you still need help contact me through Skype, Facebook or call me. If we are not friends on Facebook, just add me!
